Postdoc vacancy Bio-energy at Utrecht University.
<color><param>0100,0100,0100</param>Dear Bio-energy Community,
I would like to inform you about an interesting Postdoc position in the
bio-energy field at my institution (Dept. of Science, Technology &
Society - Utrecht University in the Netherlands). A job description is
given below, as well as the weblink to our website that gives more
information about the activities we have on bio-energy research (and
education). I sincerely believe this is a challenging position for people
with the right background.
For any questions you can of course contact me at given coordinates.
Furthermore, if you know anyone who could be interested but is not on
this list, I appreciate your tips or any forwarding of this
message/description.
I look forward to your reactions!
Best Regards,
Dr. Andre Faaij (Associate Professor)
- coordinator bio-energy research programme STS-UU -
At the Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Science, Technology &
Society of the Utrecht University a position is available for a Postdoc
<center>on Bio-energy (position for at least 4 years full-time)</center>
You will be employed at the Department of Science, Technology and
Society (STS), part of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Utrecht
University. The department is also linked to the faculties of physics,
biology and geography. Education is provided for students in the
faculties mentioned. More information about the department can be
found at:
http://www.chem.uu.nl/nws/www/nws.html
STS offers an enthusiastic, dynamic working environment. The
research of the department is of high quality and highly relevant for
policy making in a variety of areas.
.
Your job consists of: <underline>Research</underline>: A major part (about 50%) of your work
is part of a 4-year multi-disciplinary research programme funded by the
Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the
Netherlands Organisation for Energy and the Environment (NOVEM),
called: Bio-PUSh: Identifying Strategies for Identifying Optimal Bio-
energy Production & Utilisation Systems. The programme addresses
the key question to what extent multifunctional land-use (including
integrated crop conversion), in combination with biomass cascades,
can lead to lower cost biomass energy and more efficient use of land
resources.
This programme is coordinated by STS and is carried out in
collaboration with the Wageningen University (Environmental
Economics) and Delft University of Technology (Policy Management).
Each of the participating universities carries out a part of the work by
means of a Ph.D.-project. Key questions lay in the field of land-use
dynamics and economic drivers, overall system optimisation and actor
involvement. It is intended that the study area includes both NW
Europe as well as Eastern Europe. The post-doc plays a key role in
developing methodological frameworks, integrating results from the
three sub-projects into coherent strategies, and making a major
contribution to the total programme coordination and management.
Furthermore, the post-doc is considered to participate in the bio-energy
research programme of STS in which research is carried out for a
variety of parties, including various Ministries, FAO, the EU and
industries (about 40% of the job). In this position, the post-doc has the
freedom to develop and initiate new research activities, relevant for his
or her main tasks and the STS research programme.
<underline>Contribution to the education programmes of STS, </underline>e.g. by means of
supervising Msc.-and Ph.D.-students and contributions to one or more
courses given for graduate students in the disciplines mentioned
above (about 10% of the job).
The candidate should have a background in natural and/or
environmental sciences. Experience with multi-disciplinary, policy
oriented, research is a pre-requisite. You have notable experience in the
field of bio-energy, preferably concerning land-use issues, biomass
production systems, energy & environmental system analysis and
economic analyses. Your competence is evident from scientific
publications in refereed journals and a relevant Ph.D.-thesis. You are
capable of initiating and carrying out new research projects in the bio-
energy field, of supervising junior researchers and students and
building and maintaining an international network.
We offer: a position for 4 years, full time (with flexibility to work 32
hours per week). Depending on personal performance and capabilities
to acquire contract research a position on a permanent basis is in
principle possible (after four years).
Your salary, depending on experience and performance, amounts
maximally Dfl. 8,044,- (3,656 EURO) gross per month. Secundary
benefits are excellent and according to the CAO of Netherlands
Universities.
Are you interested? For further information you can contact Dr. Andre
Faaij (tel: +31-(0)30-2537643; <underline>A.Faaij@chem.uu.nl</underline>) or Prof. Dr. Wim
Turkenburg (tel: +31-(0)30-2537600; { HYPERLINK mailto:W.Turkenburg@chem.uu.nl) }W.Turkenburg@chem.uu.nl). Your
written application should be addressed to Mrs. Drs. J.M.H. van
Heycop ten Ham, Personel & Organisation of the Faculty of Chemistry
of the Utrecht University, Postbus 80.083, 3503 TB, Utrecht, with
reference to vacancy number 64101.
