Atlanta Area SB Opportunity
Hello everyone. I'm new to this list as of last week.
Just got my copy of "The Straw Bale House" from Real Goods, and I've got the
bug.
My wife and six month old daughter are planning a move to the greater
Atlanta area in early '96.
I spoke with Frank Purvis with Habitat in Americus, GA the other day,
inquiring into the status of SB construction in Georgia. He was not aware
of any projects in the State. He did say that Habitat would be interested
in knowing more about my plans, with an eye towards getting some local
Habitat folks involved and exposed to the technology during the building
process. He said a headquarters volunteer by the name of Marjorie would be
in touch with me soon.
I was wondering what others might think about the Habitat connection, and
then I started thinking about the 96' Olympics and how this could be a great
opportunity for people from all over the world to be exposed to SB
construction during their visit.
I was hoping to get the opinions of those more experienced on these issues.
1. SB construction in Georgia (high summer humidity and temps and lots of
Georgia red clay soil).
2. The Habitat aspect.
3. The Olympics aspect.
4. The wisdom of trying to pull all of these aspects together into a
workable whole.
5. The possibility that some experts in SB technology with connections to
the greater world of substainable housing might be interested in seeing
something like an 96' Olympics SB Building Demonstration take place.
Any comments or insight into these issues would be greatly appreciated.
This is really a limb walk for me, but something that had a lot of
interesting angles to it and therefore very appealing.
Thanks,
Marty Tennant in Myrtle Beach, SC
